Meet Our Pastor

Bishop Devon D. Dawson

“I believe the cause is greater than the person and the message is greater than the messenger. The focus of my ministry is connecting to the cause and the message, for it is all about Jesus.”

A sought after altar facilitator, Devon Dawson is perhaps best known for his spiritual and practical approach to coaching seekers in pursuit of the Holy Ghost. He has had the distinct honor of serving on the UPCI New York Metro District Board as Presbyter for Section 2 from 2003 to 2005 and newly elected Presbyter for Section 3, a position which he also held in 2006 to 2011.  In 2011 he was installed as the New York Metro District Superintendent. d He has served as the UPCI National Superintendent for Guyana and Trinidad for 17.5 years.

The son of apostolic preacher, Laurel Dawson, who preached for 60 years, Bishop. Dawson’s ministry is a reflection of the old adage that the “apple does not fall far from the tree.” It is this connection coupled with his innate passion that spawned a deep commitment to the Great Commission, which propelled him and his young family to become apostolic pioneers to the country of Guyana, South America in 1976.

During his 34 years of ministry, he has had the honor of spearheading the groundwork that resulted in the realization of one church in Jamaica and 15 churches in Guyana, five in Trinidad, and one in Suriname, many of which remain fully functional today. An ordained minister for 38 years, who graduated top of his class in 1971 from the Caribbean Bible Institute (CBI), in Kingston, Jamaica, Bishop Dawson has committed his whole life to being an instrument in the hands of God while proclaiming the truths of the Bible to all within his sphere of influence.

Most important to Bishop Dawson are the countless number of believers who have had their faith strengthened and the thousands who have come to know the Lord Jesus Christ through his service as a laborer in the vineyard. Anyone who knows him knows of his love for God and His people. It is a love that was ignited early and one that has taken him from Warsop, Trelawny to distant lands in dutiful obedience to the will of God for his life.

Bishop Dawson is a devoted family man. He is married to his best friend Joy, whom he says is a gift from God.  They have three daughters  – Kesha (married to Gary); Shondell (married to Sean); Devany, and three grandchildren – Sean, Lauren and Kyemi Rae.
